Hi all! My husband, our 8 yr old, and I (and maybe our dog) are looking at a VRBO property around the corner from Norris Square Park. We'd take SEPTA in to the convention center for the papal visit next Sept and get to mass (hopefully) on Benjamin Franklin pkwy. My husband especially wants to know if this neighborhood is safe. Would we be okay staying there?
Thank you!!!

I wouldn't recommend it if you don't know anyone in the area that you would be going back and forth with. Especially not at night on the subway.

Its an okay neighborhood. It is changing for the better, but Norris Square is on the border of some really bad areas. I have a friend who lives near Berks subway station, and I have never felt uncomfortable at night taking the train and then walking to his house. It just may not be the most aesthetically appealing area.

My advice is don't go too far north above the Berks station. I was just in that area on Saturday and while the neighborhood around the playground @ Howard & Berks is improving, it's still dicey looking in spots.

I wasn't too afraid mainly because I went there in the afternoon.
