What I've noticed at Philly.com
Recent articles by their writers which aren't overly controversial topics, allow comments

Articles with no comments:
Wire service articles (Associated press)
older articles (they can be there originally but then they can be removed)
Controversial story lines, such as racial.

It's always sad to see censorship.

The people that comment are city residents, locals. Everyone is welcome to comment, from both sides of the debate.

Censoring comments is basically like a child closing his eyes and thinking that whatever they just saw doesn't exist. It's denial.

I agree. They didn't want to hear how some real Philadelphians truly feel.

I don't understand why an alleged news reporting website owes the world an anonymous trolling forum.
It's not a blog. And even if it was, I don't see where there's a censorship issue here.

ESPN fixed their comments section so that you will need a facebook account to comment on articles

It's done nothing. It's shocking how many people are willingly attaching their name to insanely racist comments.

See I didn't thought that would decrease the racist comments if they were posting under their actual name

Racism is a catch all phrase these days, describing anything you don't agree with.

Got to love ignorance. Racism is alive in well in 2014 if you didn't know.
