Well that sucks and I have absolutely no reason to go to either site since I was so used to commenting. Wonder why they would just removed them out of the blue like that? Did the comments get that bad to remove the comments completely?

I've never posted to either site, but can offer --- my wife was on a similar site yesterday and was appalled at the unabashed, unapologetic racist postings she encountered. She didn't say whether this was a part of a downward trend in the discussions, but I know she wouldn't be a return viewer/participant if posts had always been that ugly. So I'm guessing the hosts of the sites you mentioned might have regarded the comments more as a potential liability than a place to share one's thoughts.
FWIW: there's a thread on C-D about Mike Ditka's reaction to Ferguson. Yesterday afternoon someone posted a blatantly racist diatribe. I and a couple of others responded quickly and noisily. This morning I saw that the original post, along with mine and the others, were removed. So maybe philly.com and 6abc are taking the temperature of the times and are being proactive, in a way. Again, just a guess on my part, but I'd bet I'm not far off the mark.

Are you sure the philly.com has removed comments? I can still see them. They have typically just removed comments on articles that seem especially likely to lead to racist rants by the commenters.

Won't be missed on either site if this is true. Far too many of the comments were racist and anti Philly. A lot from people who have not lived in the city in years. Not a good look if you are trying to encourage people to come to the city to visit or live.

I agree. It's a cesspool where all Negadelphians flock to.
