Possibly moving to Philadelphia (Temple University Hospital) (Oakland: high crime, house)

Hi, my name is Michelle. My husband and I may be relocating for a job at Temple University Hospital. We prefer not to live in the city--as we animals. We have also heard about the high crime rate. Got no time for all that...LOL We are very quiet people, who like to take walks together with our dog. So, what we are wondering is if any of you could lead us to a nice community--up to an hour away from hospital. My husband is willing to commute. Possibly near transit/train etc. A house is preferred. 1500.00 a month. Our main concern is safety, as we have lived in other big cities--Oakland-working for Oakland Children Hospital--so we were introduced to crime very early. We quickly moved from Oakland--north about 40 mins to Walnut Creek. We found safety and a quality area to live in...near stores, malls, restaurants. Can we find this outside of Temple and if so what areas are the best. We are willing to pay a little more for safety.

Thank you for any advice, as we are relocating from Florida, this is a hard decision for our family. Any advice will be very helpful, as this will not be a lifelong change. We expect to be at Temple about a year. If there are any local cops on the thread, please contact me.
