I've been lobbying my gf to make Philly our second home even though I've never been there before. I'm currently planning to visit Philly in February for my birthday. The next day is valentines day and I want to drive to either NYC or DC.

What are some things/attractions in Philly might you guys recommend? Also, are there any night spots you might recommend for Philly?

As for NYC and DC, which would be a better city to spend Valentines day? We are in our mid twenties and we enjoy things like museums, good dining, and good nightlife as well.

I'm more interested in seeing Philly and it would be great to get advice and suggestions from you guys. My birthday falls on a Friday and Valentines day is the following Saturday.

Thanks in advance!

The Philly/DC option.

What types of things are you looking to do here in Philly? And you'll only be here for one day?

This is my favorite site for what's going on - Uwishunu - Philadelphia Blog About Things to Do, Events, Restaurants, Food, Nightlife and More |

How many days will you be here? If you're really considering making this a second home, it seems strange to get into town just to leave for DC or NYC. Philly is a large city and could fill a month of activity.

Unfortunately, I will only have Thursday evening and the entire Friday. Its more or less a way to get my gf to see how unique Philly is, although Its equally important for me. I know one day is not much, but I plan to spend the entire day exploring the city.

Philly's awesome. Italian Market, Readings Terminal, Rocky steps, and really good art museums.

NYC, well, I don't even have to tell you about that place.

DC is fun, but I think you can benefit more from Philly than DC, unless you want to do some boring tourism stuff. I can tell you, Lincoln and Jefferson memorial is really something though.

If you are thinking of going dancing you could try the barbary. Visit the barcade and play centipede. The El Bar has music saturday nights. You could always check out what is going on on those nights at underground arts, electric factory, union transfer etc or go ice skating.

Ease up and spend both days in Philly. I recommend the Alexander Inn for couples.

I agree about duration and location. The Alexander's great: good location, reasonable rates, small but not so small you have that "someone's always aware of me" B&B feeling (at least, that's the feeling I get in "too small" venues).
