Though I debated to do this thread. Place it in the General US Philly thread side. I thought IT'S GONNA GET HATE. But here it is. Boston though is a SURPRISE TO ME.
Some may say Philly is just more affordable. But part if that is housing desirability too? Some may note growing and spreading gentrification will change this? But also the same is happening in other cities.

THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS:

-LIMIT HATE AND PERSONAL SLAPS AT BIAS.
-ALL CITIES STILL HAVE THEIR POORER POPULATION.
-PERHAPS IF HOMELESS COULD BE COUNTED? THE CITY ORDER MIGHT CHANGE A BIT?
-DO SOME CLAIM THE LIST IS INACCORATE?
-MAYBE SOME WILL SAY PHILLY IS EASIER FOR SOMEONE TO LIVE DECENT UNDER $25,000/YR?
-COULD PHILLY'S VAST ROW HOME STOCK PROVIDE MORE WITH A ABILITY TO OWN A ROW HOME AT UNDER 25,000/YR?

DETROIT ...is to be expected to be the ......#1 with 48.0% .... under $25.000/yr.
MILWAUKEE ... just edging Philly for ..........#2 with 36.5% ....under $25,000/yr.
PHILADELPHIA ... has still over a 1/3 at .....#3 with 36.4% ....under $25,000/yr. income.

These Are the 33 Poorest American Cities

These are for city proper populations of more than 500,000 and does not come as a surprise (or shouldn't) to anybody.

Philadelphia is the poorest city with a population over 1 Million in the country-there have been many threads about that fact.
NYC and Boston have similar rates yet their cost of living is astronomical, which I guess allows people to discount their huge chunks of poor people.

Philly is in a better position IMO, especially seeing as how many of the poor here own their homes unlike other cities, but the problem is still massive.

Are you posting because you genuinely care? Or is it because you have some weird online fetish with all things Philly and rowhomes?

Guess that is why so may New Yorkers decided to move to Philadelphia in the past 5 to 10 years.

I'm not sure why Steeps hasn't been banned. I guess it's because the posts are Philly-centric no matter how boneheaded and stupid they are. But a thread I started about the passing of Beau Biden(so tragic!!)got deleted although part of Delaware is in Philly metro.

Speaking of poor people, inspite of how the NY media portrays NYC, there are still thounsands of poor people in Manhattan. They are in East Harlem, aka Spanish Harlem.

Exactly. And not to mention, if you account for cost-of-living differences, there is no question that cities like Boston and New York would have higher adjusted poverty rates.

Nevertheless, the media likes to pretend that a certain salary compares exactly the same in different cities, when we all know that's laughable.

Most Affordable Big Cities In The U.S. - The Simple Dollar
So ... Philly should be more affordable? If New Yorkers are still moving there and making the commute prices are going to rise. Sort of how they have in Virginia. If you can't afford Philly and are still trying to make it in the Northeast you should just give up and move back to Ohio. Do it now before you're trapped in Philadelphia hanging out in a city park, walking around in circles arguing with yourself and eating out of trash cans.

So there are poor people living in Philadelphia. And?

I mean what am I supposed to do with that bit of information? Leave the city?

The general rule of thumb has always been if you're going to be poor you're better off being poor in a small, low cost of living area. I've never understood why so many poor people slug it out in a high cost of living area or deal with a high crime neighborhood. There's no point in it, just move and be happier.
