I now work in Ft. Washington and I'm looking for a studio/1BR place in Philly that isn't too bad of a commute to get into work.

Some info on me:
-Single male
-Mid 20's
-Enjoys music, coffee, oudoors(cycling and running)
-Want a place near public transpo for access to CC and opportunity to reduce using my car as much as possible
-Want to experience the culture of Philly(Not originally from here)
-Income of about 3k/month(after taxes)
-Prefer an area not too loud and wild, but with great opportunity to interact and meet people

Any tips or advice would help! Thanks

Conshohocken, maybe? I'd say Manayunk, but it can get pretty loud and wild.

I have heard good things about "Conshy", someone compared it to what Hoboken is becoming to ny, any truth to that?
Also, can anyone chime in on the West Mount Airy area? I have seen some affordable places and it is also nearby my job.

No, I would not compare Conshy to Hoboken. If anything, Manayunk would be more in line with Hoboken.

West Mt. Airy would be a good choice. Very easy access to Center City and as you said it's close to your job.

It's a nice place, but not so great for meeting and interacting with young people. Chestnut Hill is a bit better since it has a more cohesive downtown, but that's not ideal either.

How would you commute to work?
By train or driving?
I live in Center City and I work in Colmar. The train I use everyday (Lansdale / Doylestown) passes Ft. Washington. Lots people take train and get down there.
There is a special bus from that train station that goes to the business circles.

If train is your mode of transportation, then I would say Old City.
You can simply walk to Jefferson Station or take subway all the way there and then take Lansdale/Doylestown line.

Hey Man,
I used to work in Ft. Washington for a couple years while living in Philly. Unfortunately, there really isn't a good city-vibe town or exciting area that is an easy commute to Ft. Washington. Honestly, your best bet is to live in the northern section of downtown (e.g. fishtown, northern liberties, fairmount, templetown area) and plan on taking Broad Street all the way up to rt. 309. It's not a great commute, but not bad either and since it's a city street rather than highway, you pretty much know what to expect everyday.

Conshohocken is nice. Depending on where in Conshy, the Schuylkill Trail is close by and is great for getting out and being active. See: Schuylkill River Trail | Schuylkill River Trail

Downtown Conshy is also a nice area to meet with people and for the days that you want to have a loud/wild night, Manayunk is train ride (or cab ride) away.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I would most likely end up driving to work. I have also heard and read good things about Fishtown, "NoLibs"(is that the hip thing to call Northern Liberties?) areas, just wondering if I could afford to live there. West Mt. Airy might be the move for me and I can head into the city when I want. I guess my main question and concern is, wanting to be able to get that "Philly" or east coast city vibe (whatever it is, not from here so I don't know) and experience in which I'd still be able to live within my means.
