I might be visiting Philadelphia for just a couple days pretty soon. I'd be taking the Amtrak in and would just need a place to rest for probably one night afterward. Ideally looking for a private room in a hotel, but would be open to hostels too.

Why not try priceline? Do a low bid and make sure to pick center city. Nothing to lose. I agree with airbnb though.

Be VERY careful with bidding in Center City/Rittenhouse Square area. I've done that in the past. The good news? I ended up with a nice place like the Sonesta on Market at 18th Street (November 2015). However, the quoted price did NOT include my debit card getting swiped for a $50 hold with incidentals.
