If you just like regular food Randi's on Grant Avenue in the Northeast is good.
The Filet with Crabmeat rocks.

I've been to many of the restaurants mentioned-Fork, Alma de Cuba, Tequila's, Amada, Jims' Steaks, Striped Bass, Buddakan, Dolce, etc. I would recommend, for a group:

Tequila's-on Locust Street
Penang-Chinatown
Buddakan-old city,make a reservation in advance!
Fogo de Chao-chestnut and broad....this is great for meat lovers! It's the Brazilian Churrascaria
The Melting Pot-this takes awhile, but is a lot of fun;Chestnut Hill, King of Prussia and Center City
Pietro's-Walnut Street;Family style dining with pizza and also individual dinners, but surprisingly so good! I went here with my whole family the day after my wedding and we loved it!

I'm not a serious restaurant-goer these days, but I do still have a few favorites. (A couple of the ones I would have mentioned before are now closed.)
Chung King Garden. This is in Chinatown. It offers authentic Szechuan Chinese food. (I wouldn't know for sure how authentic it is, but it definitely has some dishes that are quite different from the standard "American Chinese" fare. Just about everything I've had from there has been excellent, although I did find some of the fish dishes too weird (to me).
The Malaysian restaurants Penang and Banana Leaf are both very good.
For something off the beaten path, I like Tierra Colombiana, but it's in North Philly, so you probably want to make sure to bring a car. (There is a parking lot across the street from it.) It's a very nice family-oriented Colombian and Dominican (I think it is*) restaurant, with a dance club on top of it. Huge servings and very tasty when I've been there.
My favorite South Philly Italian place closed, and I haven't been to any of the others recent enough to recommend any of them, though there are definitely plenty of good restaurants down there.
*WRONG: I just checked and it's Colombian and Cuban.
