Thumbs up Philly has many options

There are lots of great places in Philly. I think it all depends on what your budget it and what type of food you are looking for. My all time favorite resturant in Philly is Django it is a BYOb but it may be too small for 15 people. The food is out of this world European food and it is a very cozy romantic kind of place.
I will tell you some of my favorites that are in the middle to the expensive price range. Another one of my favorite places is Le Bec Fin. It is in Rittenhouse Square and is expensive and upscale. It serves French food. All the dishes here are fabulous. I love the chocolate cake the most.I also love Brassiere Perrier which is also a great place but is less expensive than Le Bec fin and also less stuffy. The food is great (all of the dishes but I really like the salmon and the Creme Brulee) the atmosphere is trendy upscale and the Cosmos aren't bad. Next door to that is Alma De Cuba which also has a trendy upscale type of vibe but it serves Cuban food which is delicous and some of the best mojitos on the planet! Theres Devon and Rouge which are right off Rittenhouse square park. Devon is a seafood place and Rouge is American contential I guess. Both serve great food. I go to both places with my dogs in the spring and summer. They have outdoor seating. Rouge makes the best Apple Martinis & a great burger or duck. I can't get enough of the crab melt sandwich at Devon. These are all in Rittenhouse suare. I could tell you others in this nieghborhood but I'll move on to Olde city.

Olde City has a hipper vibe with great resturants as well. Theres Amada on 2nd & Chestnut. It is a great place that serves spanish Tapas that are delicous! The sangria is also amazing. they even have flamingo dancers that perform on Weds & Friday. theres Philadelphia Fish and Company which has great food too and is right next door. Buddakahn and Dolce are both hip eateries and are right up the street.Theres Cuba De Libre which serve cuban food and the best mojitos in the universe maybe even better than Alma's. Theres also Tangerine which is one of my favorite places to go. There signature drink is amazing and the food is middle eastern and to die for! Next door is Red Sky. The food there is good and the atmosphere is hip. I could go on and on here too but most of the places I frequent have a similar vibe. I'll let someone else chime in to give suggestions on places with a different vibe. One more thing I've gone to 2 places in North Liberties that are amazing. Bar Fernidad which serves Spanish Tapas and Dolce which is right across the courtyard from it and serves american Contential I guess. Both places have great food, trendy atmosphere just as good as Olde City or Rittenhouse Square places but are less expensive.

If you put any stock in online reviews, Zagat has a pretty comprehensive array of ranked lists for Philly restaurants:

Some of my favorites are: Patou (312 Market Street) and Xochitl (pronounced So-sheet, 408 S. 2nd Street) in Old City, and Bar Ferdinand in Northern Liberties (1030 N. 2nd Street).

Patou's French, specifically from Cote d'Azur, and have interesting specials that sometimes tie in areas with French influence (i.e. Caribbean). Xochitl's Mexican, but not your typical "taco-and-burrito".....actually there are no burritos. And Bar Ferdinand is tapas-style Spanish. Not quite as fancy and pricey as Amada, so it's a good alternative (or do both). Get the date/fig/bacon empanada (datiles con tocino).
