forgetting this racism thing, are there different "sections" of Media? Seems like the housing is a bit cheaper in certain areas of town.

Yes, there seems to be a section along Baltimore Pike and bordered by 252 southbound to the east of Baltimore Pike for a few blocks and south of that area for a few more blocks that is the low income section - my wife and I drove around looking for an open house there last year. I believe the neighborhood was somewhat rundown looking and had rowhomes, apartments, singles, maybe some twin homes.

Orrmobl's observations are the same as mine, it does seem like Media is a bit segregated for whatever reason(s), and that the majority of African-Americans, or at least the largest group of African-Americans live in this section of Media. It does not mean that non African-Americans are racist or prejudice; it could be a self-imposed segregation or an economic choice. My wife and I are considering a duplex in that section of Media, and the majority of the people we met and spoke with would make great neighbors.
The exception, a less than desirable "white" woman we met who immediately mentioned that we were looking in a "black" neighborhood; the irony of it all, she was pointing to an older African-American woman with her grandchild watering the front lawn; it could have been a Norman Rockwell painting. Overall the people in Media seem pretty open-minded and the subtle, not to excuse it, racism you may encounter is nothing compared to the small towns outside of Pittsburgh, where I grew up.

I appreciate all your help (and the discussion that ensued). I am staying in corporate housing by Valley Forge, but just leased a townhouse in Exton (Exton Station to be exact). The area seems to serve my purpose, and there was a great mixed ages/families/singles feel in the neighborhood (and a great view to boot).
I will say that there is absolutely a different energy surrounding race relations in the East (vs. West - I have lived in LA, Portland, Seattle, the OC, etc) and I am still a bit taken aback by it. But, to Rainrock's point - I also see a lot of it as socio-economic. That being said - it has taken some getting used to.
Thank you all for your help - and please tell me this heat/humidity is not the norm from now until September...

Its been unusally hot for early June. We will get a handful of heat spells like this throughout the summer though. The average highs will be in the upper 80's with high humidity in July/Aug. Sept it starts to cool off and the fall is outstanding.
They have some terrific beaches in South Jersey if the heat gets out of hand(2 hr drive) Cape May,Avalon, Stone Harbor,Ocean City,North Wildwood. The Pocono Mts are 2 hrs N, also a nice place to visit and cool off.
Good luck.
