Ordering a cheesesteak
On my way up to my summer job in New Jersey, I plan to stop the day before it starts in Philadelphia and enjoy two things that scream Philly: a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park and a cheesesteak at Pat's.
The Phillies game should be fairly simple, since although I'm a Blue Jays fan, the Phillies are playing the Marlins. Since we did win the 1993 World Series, though, I think I'll leave my Jays hat in the car.
On the cheesesteak issue, I know that ordering the wrong way is a sin in Philly, and I want to make sure I don't screw it up. So, which of the following is correct for a cheesesteak with American cheese and mushrooms, no onions, and a side of fries?
A. Mushroom American without and fries
B. Without American and mushroom, plus fries
C. Either is acceptable
D. Neither is correct

I lean towards A.. but honestly unless you're going to that dopey Geno's it really doesn't matter. Just say you want a Cheesteak with mushrooms and american cheese LOL.
Pat's is terrible IMO. Jims or Tony Lukes is better, and Tony Lukes is right on Oregon Ave near the stadium.

Yeah, Tony Luke's is good - they are at Front and Oregon.
BTW, there are some Philly cheesesteak places in Citizens Bank Park.

I love Tony Luke's and they are in the Phillies Stadium BTW. We try to go anytime the Phillies play the Mets.

Yes, just get the meat, cheese and bread at the stadium.

Stay away from Pat's or Geno's unless it's 3:00 a.m. and you're drunk.

I'll take the risk. I want the original, no matter what.

Jim's at 4th and south is much better IMO.
Pat's and Geno's both slice the meat way too thick. And don't shred it up enough.

I'm not up to speed on the proper ordering of a cheesesteak, but Pat's is pretty much like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld....they get mad if you don't order in the proper way. I've had Pat's and wasn't impressed. My advice would be to go to Jim's on South Street, much better and they're not picky about how you order it. And don't go with American cheese.....go with wiz (yes, cheez wiz, it may sound lousy but its really good!). John Kerry, when he was running for president, made a fool of himself by asking for Swiss cheese on his cheesesteak in Philly.
If you're going to a Phillies game, try Rick's Steaks in Ashburn Alley at CBP. Very good as well.
You'll be OK with your Blue Jays hat....just don't wear your Joe Carter jersey.

I know Cheez Whiz is preferred, but I've heard American or provolone are also acceptable. As far as I know, only Swiss is where the problem comes in, I know that a true cheesesteak is never made with Swiss cheese.
