I actually go to University of the Arts so maybe I can be of some help. I live about 45 minutes north of the city and I go back and forth fairly often. As long as he knows where to go and pays attention he should be perfectly fine. If he happens to get lost, do what another poster said... get onto a street going east (the intersecting street number will go down) and he'll eventually hit I-95. I wouldn't suggest that he tries parking on the street. It's hard enough to find legitimate parking, but trying to park in those spots can be a royal pain in the ass. Tell him to spend the money and park in a parking garage. There's one directly across from the UArts admissions building at Broad/Pine. I've parked in there a few times and the prices are okay.

If you need anything else, feel free to ask!

-Brian
