The only downside to working in the burbs and living in center city/Fairmount (and I love living in the city) is that you will have to pay the city wage tax.

True. That is also a consideration. Lots of things to factor in...

The main line may be a bit pricey, I don't really know, haven't lived in Philly in ions, but when I did i lived right off Lancaster and City Line Avenue near the train stations right up the street from Overbrook Pizza. It was a great area then, not sure now. Have fun looking.

Overbrook is spotty, has a rough undertone to it. My Parish is there at 63rd and Lancaster and Father has problems with drug dealers in front regularly. Orrmbl mentioned people being jumped there during the day too. Despite that, my husband and I are slightly considering the area due to its proximity to CC and our Parish being there. But there are much safer and nicer hoods to be in.

Sorry to hear that area has gone down. I lived right off City Line not far from Lancaster near those commuter trains. That was so long ago though (over 20 years). I even took some classes at St. Joes and sometimes even walked home on nice evenings. Everything must change unfortunately.
