Any word if the redesigned Ben Franklin Parkway will impact large events?

At this point I actually don't care that much but when I was a Fairmount resident, yes the 4th of Fireworks were super annoying; limited parking for days, then trash everywhere. But I kind of accepted that. But Made in America is different, they used a public space, charged money and built walls and the local residents still got all the **** that came with it. Why should local residents suffer for something not accessible to the general public?

Well the parkway is the downtown festival grounds. I do think they have improved the speed in cleaning up after the fact. I mean to me it's not that different from renting out any other public space. I get the traffic situation is worse, but that's part of city life imo.

I think the redesign opens up the possibility to having even more events.

I would respectfully disagree. Are there other public places that can be rented out for private events? Sure, but I don't know of any others that significantly inconvenience the local residents for days on end.

Is it really that hard to just to go out to Broad to go south? I mean I get it. I would lose my mind some nights coming back from work trying to park in Fitler Square and something was filming that was taking all the parking AND causing a traffic jam well down Grays Ferry ave. City life is tough, but it's just part of it all. I could see it or another festival like it being moved to somewhere in Fairmount park. After all, weren't Fairmount and FDR built to be the ultimate fairgrounds?

Fast forwarding, would the planned Sixers arena on Market Street be large enough to host MIA? Or the planned I-95 cap park?

The festival is popular, but I think the Parkway should steer away from largescale concerts. With the upcoming redesign and The Calder Museum, it's better suited as a premiere boulevard, but with more residential, a hotel, and restaurants, so neighbors would need to relax and compromise.

MIA also mucks up the landscaping, which would be an issue with the redesign.

In the end, I want MIA to stay in Philadelphia, it's hugely popular, but just some thoughts/preferences.

At the time I live there, I got home from work at 9 each night. It was always tough to park, I accepted that but during MIA it was unimaginable. July 4th was bad too but it was only a couple days (and likely days I didn't have to work) and more importantly, it was a free, public event.

The last time I checked out the Rittenhouse show, there was an origami artist selling patterns that people could buy to make their own origami birds and animals.

I liked the difficulty scale she had: from 1 for "can't do IKEA" to 5 for "Zen master" (or something like that).

I actually discovered a painter at that show (bought some work from him).

He lives in New York but travels to Philadelphia each year for the show. He said Rittenhouse Square is awesome, and the show is his favorite art show of the year. Wish I could make it this year!
