Hey Guys!

My boyfriend recently got a job working in Philly, currently I live in CT and he (his family) lives in NJ just over the bridge from Philly. Wanted your opinion or experiences on the best state to live for working in Philly. We have looked in NJ, Delaware and PA! I'm not sure where I will land a job yet but was probably going to look for that after we chose where to live.

We are in our early - mid 20s, not looking to start a family just yet, but do love the suburbs. I hope to get a dog with a nice yard and fence, so nothing in the city please! My house I grew up in sits on a little over an acre of land so I'm just so used to having space between my neighbors and I!

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom!
Best,
Olivia

Where in Philly is the job? That will have some impact on where you should choose to live. Also, what kind of job will YOU be looking for? That should also have impact. Say, for example, you work in tech. You might be better off looking in PA.

That aside, it would probably be a positive to live in NJ to be close to his family, assuming you are on good terms with them. Easy access to Philly can be found in Collingswood and Westmont via the PATCO, and both towns have decent rental options (Westmont just had the Haddon Towne Center apartments open). They can be somewhat pricey though, so it depends on your income level.

However, it sounds like you want a house, even if you renting at first, rather than an apartment, so I would carouse some sites to see what you can find to rent in the area. If you desire more suburban, then you can look in Cherry Hill and focus on being near the Woodcrest PATCO, or for that matter Voorhees/Cherry Hill near the Ashland PATCO, if the train would be useful.

Just saying, I'm also going to recommend NJ here because you want a dog, and Freedom Park in Medford is Dog Paradise. You, your boyfriend, and your dog will all love it, especially in the summer when they can go swimming in the lake! They also have obstacle courses there and a ridiculous amount of open fields for them to run around in, alongside some hiking trails. There is also Timber Creek Park in Blackwood which is similar but smaller.
