What does that have to do with Amazon's new headquarters? It will be housing white collar, non union jobs.

Unfortunately these guys, imo, are throwbacks to when unions were important vehicles wrt to building a degree of equity between workers and business owners. Most fringe benefits came from the work of trade unionists originally so I still try to understand where some of their activity comes from.

That's a myopic viewpoint of the business in play for a headquarters.

1. Not all jobs will be white collar. That's missing a huge chunk of operational workers.
2. A ton of construction would be required. Offices, shipping operations, warehouses, etc.
3. Labor unions impact politics in a big way.

That's for sure, and unions served a lot of good. There are still good unions, but so many are just full of thug tactics. It's hard to take someone serious when they don't uphold a professional standard and pick and choose their battles.

When organized crime got involved with unions(Teamsters, Jimmy Hoffa) things seemed to go downhill.

My thoughts also. It will change the city, and the region forever, and not for the better. We will become the east coast San Francisco.

I go back and forth with it. A few days ago I was, hmmmm.... "No!". Right now it's great because if we get this there will be no stopping us and we will not have to fight for recognition again. Although the " ugh" part is that more New Yorkers would move here.
