Sunday's Inquirer had an article about Germantown revitalization, focusing on a contest run by National Geographic. Grants up to $150k will be awarded to the neighborhoods with the most support (i.e., online votes) from their residents. G'town is the only Philly-area neighborhood in the competition. You can cast 5 votes/day until voting ends at the end of the month. $150k won't fix the neighborhood, but it would be a welcome influx of money. At minimum, voting would be a show of support for the slow-but-continued upswing of G'town's fortunes.

Article: Germantown pins renovation hopes on 'Vote Your Main Street' contest

Nat Geo: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/v...rmainstreet/#/ You have to create a NatGeo user id to be able to vote (the "Sign Up" button). Once you do that, click on the Germantown pin on the map, vote using the pop-up, then close the pop-up and click the submit votes (or similarly worded) button. (The process is a tad less than intuitive.)

Yes! Germantown is currently in 2nd place as of this morning-and there are smaller grants to be dispersed throughout the voting.

Can you post the exact link here, or is that not allowed? I had previously created an account but lost the link, and I've surpassed my allotted Philly.com articles this month

Nevermind, I thought the Nat Geo thing was something different. All good

I voted! I hope they win. There are many buildings in Germantown that deserve some TLC. The area between Vernon park and coulter street has tons of potential. Nothing ever seems to take off. While there have been renovations on new houses the commercial corridor feels ignored.

I tried to vote but by the time the verification link got to my inbox, it had expired. Tried this a few times, same result. I'll keep trying though.

Finally got in. Voted!

The GUCDC project has held onto the lead ever since it captured it, and the project won one of those smaller grants - $10,000 for biggest increase in votes in a single day.

Today's the day they announce the winner. NBC10 plans to go live on Germantown Avenue at 4 p.m. I expect to hear shouts of joy from Robert Seeley and the Doley sisters all the way over here in the 800 block of East Chelten Avenue.

If this post wasn't on here, I'd have forgotten or not known to vote.
