Yesterday (Sunday) I got a parking ticket in center city near chinatown, it is on 7th st near spring garden st, right outside Voltage lounge. Ticket is $36 and it says expired meter.

The reason I didn't put any quarters in was because I assumed like every other cities I have been to, Boston, NYC, DC, even Bethlehem where I lived before, on Sundays meters are free. I am confused, is Philly an exception?

I started googling but then I couldn't find clear evidence to say it is an exception in Philly. But I can find clear evidence for cities like Boston, NYC. I asked my coworkers today, they don't know for sure either, but some of them also have the same pre-assumption like me that it is supposed to be free on Sundays.

Any one can offer any comments? Thanks

If there is the law, I guess it is on me. I just have to pay it.

Thanks, that is exactly where I parked. I can't read the sign Mon- Sun from the google map, do you know that is the case?
I didn't see the ticket until I got on the highway so I didn't really go back to check the sign.

IN general in high tourist areas, nope not free. I went down to Penns landing yesterday for the latin American festival, parked at a meter on front street and definitely had to feed it. LOL, well feed the kiosk anyway.

This is in general.

If you're still in doubt you can call the Parking Authority. Or even call Voltage - I'm sure they'd know the rules & regs in their immediate vicinity.

Philly is an exception now, yes. Maybe like 10-15+ years ago, Sundays were free. With the implementation of the electronic kiosks, they eliminated free parking on Sundays in a lot of areas, which I don't like personally.

Yeah, definitely don't assume. Always read signs beforehand. If there are no signs you can find, assume you have to pay.

$36 isn't too bad as long as you pay it off soon.

It depends on the street. Some streets are free (on weekends) but have a time limit. You could have exceeded the time limit.

No free parking on that street unless it's after midnight and before 7AM.

Read the signs. ALWAYS. No street is the same. I repeat. No street is the same. I typically recommend to people not familiar with the city and its signs. To stick to the garage.

Don't be fooled though. Even us Philadelphians, so well versed, have all been greeted with that lovely blue envelope.
