I've read a lot of apartment reviews for various buildings in NE Philly above Cottman Avenue and pretty much none of them are good. I'm talking about Holmesburg, Mayfair, Rhawnhurst, and Fox Chase. Are these places really that bad, or are the people writing the reviews generally disgruntled? I'm leaning toward the idea that these places really are pretty bad (mice, don't do basic maintenance or it takes forever to get things done, hallway carpets super dirty and smelly, etc.) They may the buildings looking ok, even nice, on the outside, but the inside is a different story. I know these neighborhoods aren't as good as they used to be, but it seems odd that so many of these buildings get such bad reviews from current and former tenants. If these buildings really are that bad, where do people who want to rent half decent places move to in these neighborhoods?

In the 80s, a lot of the landlords were finding it difficult to fill their buildings with paying tenants, so they turned to the government. Yes, they filled their buildings, but it changed the culture of the complexes and the surrounding neighborhoods drastically, and not in a positive way.
Far NE Philly still has quite a few good areas.
Yes, that's what I've heard. I thought that because the surrounding neighborhoods I mentioned are least still considered OK (at least by most accounts), that the apartments would be at least mediocre/ok as well. Apparently, that's not the case.
