My intent is to live there for about a year, while working on purchasing a home in any suburb near KoP where I'll be working. I'll be moving with my wife and our eight year old daughter. Any info or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your input.
My husband and I lived in those very apartments from 2003-2005. We had some problems with loud neighbors, but that may be any apartment complex. That nook of Norristown isn't too bad. At the time, I worked at a weekly newspaper in Northwest Philadelphia and often came home late from covering meetings and I felt relatively safe. The road to get to 202 from Curren Terrace was kind of sketchy. I can't remember the name of the road. There are many parts of Norristown that are sketchy. But that area is really convenient to the KoP mall and the Plymouth Meeting mall.

The management was okay; of course it may be different now.

I would really worry about the impact of the other kids going to school with her...there are parts of Norristown that are ghetto with a capital G...
as a recipient of catholic school education.. i will be the first to admit that most public school systems have MUCH more to offer a student than Catholic schools.. better resources and higher paid teachers.

norristown SD in in the same tier as upper merion SD which i so often seen listed as a good district on these boards..

the scores are pretty bad.. but there is plenty spending per student.. do your job as a parent and and stay involved and your child will get a great education in the norristown SD.

No offence to anyone from Norristown ( I have a few family mbrs there) but I would avoid it at all cost. Even where you are on the outskirts you are still very close to what you do not want to be close to. I grew up in Abington, great schools, great neighborhoods. I had a cousin that lived/lives in Norristown and it was nothing but trouble even back in the 80's. Even now when I ride through to go to King Of Prussia I cringe because its a mini Philadelphia. A few people I used to work with lived and grew up there and said how its ridden with durgs, moderate crime and it seems to be a safe haven for illegal immigrants. I have nothing against anyone from another country trying to make it the right way, I am married to a Jamaican Man but if you don't pay taxes like I pay taxes and you are getting all the assistance in the world on me then there is an issue in my opinion.

There are some decent parts in and around Norristown. Just be careful and get some local input. I wish it would have a transformation like Manayunk did.

empress if we are judging abington schools by the way you spell offense then there is something to be said of abington schools as well...

the people i know that graduated from norristown have done quite well and went to top tier schools... it is funny that people see an area that is not 100% white and deem it as "ghetto" .. do you ask all of these people if they are paying their taxes or are you assuming that because they are brown that they are here illegally and therefore not paying taxes?

Or are you assuming that she's assuming? Put out the flames please.

We lived just outside of Norristown, in Jeffersonville, when I was pregnant with our first child 24 years ago. I would go into Norristown occasionally but not often because there was no reason to. It's not a place I would choose to live if there was another alternative nearby.

I really need some honest feedbacks on Norristown. I'm thinking of moving into the Astor & Logan Square Apartments at 410, West Johnson Highway in Norristown next month. Would appreciate if someone could tell me if that area is safe to live in and also their experiences with that apartment if they have lived there before. What about Hamilton Hall Apartments? What are the 'good areas' and 'bad' areas. I probably will have to park my car on the streets as there are limited parking spaces, so please tell me if that is safe. Thank you so much in advance.
