Just wondering how long it took for you to be called with a job offer after the interview? I know for the city of philadelphia hiring process was 5 to 6 months.

For my position I think it was a little different. I took the test and a few months later they called for the interview. The interview ended up being a large group of people that were basically already hired by virtue of our test scores. We had to bring our ID, ss card, transcripts, etc... There was never actually a one on one interview. About 3 months after that they called me with a start date and let me know when to report. I then had about 3 months of training downtown before being sent out to an office.

If you are in need of a job I would keep looking but if the state job is really what you want be OK knowing you may have to leave if you get that call. I did have enough time to put in my notice with my current job before having to report for the state position.

Good luck!

I received a conditional offer yesterday depending on the outcome of the background check. So I guess this will drag on for another week. What's another week since it has already been 2 months starting this week lol I am surprised I heard something during a holiday weekend which I figured most state employees would be on vacation. I started a new job this past monday and the new employee orientation is this coming monday. So atleast I am employed while waiting out the process. Since I don't have a criminal background I should hear something by next Friday.

Your interview was similar to mine and training will be downtown for 3 months once the background is complete. I took the test online in April and then was contacted for a interview in Mid June. Sounds like it's the same position. Do you remember how long it took for the background check to be completed?

I have been here for almost 5 years now, so I really don't remember if they did a background check. It's possible they did but I also had all my clearances from my previous job and if they asked for them I would have brought copies with me. If you dont have anything it shouldn't take too long though! There is so much red tape around anything here, it probably bounces from person to person for approval before you finally get a call!

I was told today by HR that the background check will take 4 weeks and will be contacted by phone or email. I believe it will be BOTH if everything comes back fine and by EMAIL ONLY if it comes back not clean lol

I would prefer not to hear anything until July 26th because that way I would be able to get two full checks from the job I started on 7/1. Now that I said that I would not be surprised if they contacted me before the week is over with a start date.

Yeah, it was similar for me. I took the test and heard maybe 2 Months later to report for the "interview" which was just filling out a bunch of paperwork including direct deposit information. I started soon after that, but had to wait about 2 Months for the training class (which was 3 Months) to start which was fine with me since I was still getting paid for doing filing and other office work.

Was offered the job today over the phone and now waiting for the written offer to come by email. So the background check took a total of 14 days business days from the day I received the conditional offer. I start on August 19th and plan to give myself a week off before starting the new job. The other good thing is I will be in the classroom for the remainder of the year as part of the training not entering a work environment as the only new person.

I said a few weeks ago I didn't want to hear anything until after 7/26 and they contacted me on 7/25 lol So I will get one more full check on 8/2 and then a small one on 8/16.

What is the pay schedule for state employees? is the 15th and 30th?

That's great! Congratulations! Funny how things work out sometimes, perfect for you! I am paid biweekly, so its not consistent (like this month was the 5th and the 19th). I believe supervisors or higher management is paid on a different biweekly scheduled. When you start they will give you a payment calendar. They also withheld a check so it was almost a month until I received an actual pay.

Good Luck!
