North side and overall gentrified areas on the L lines have seen 1920s records reached again. Especially the Red and Brown lines getting a nee Crossover line to increases train lengths that some shared track prevented and will add more volume in the multi-million improvements and to tracks and stations.

The Hood areas loosing African-Americans. Are showing hope along the Southside L lines. Ridership still is increasing on even lines there. But far less then these North and going to O'Hare or Midway.

Chicago's is one system that all L trains can use. There are NO Trolley lines. The Metra is basically Amtrak-like trains.

Not saying better or worst. But probably simpler to use and transfer to buses and visa versa.
