Default Richmond area, 19134 zip code

Hello,
I will be spending a week at a relative's place somewhere in the 19134 zip code area, and was wondering what kind of place is that? Is it a safe area? Are there good restaurants/ shops/ bars or is it a residential area? Is there anything nice to see in the neighborhood? It will be also my first time in Philly, so I'm trying to understand what to expect.. Thanks!

Port Richmond is a pretty safe neighborhood but I'm not sure if 19134 also extends a little further west... closer to Kensington Ave it's a little dicier. Regardless, it's mostly residential and working class, not glamorous or exciting. Ask your relative to show you how to get to the El (train) or the bus to go downtown if you'd like to check out a better selection of restaurants, shops, and bars. You could check out Northern Liberties or Fishtown, which are "hip" neighborhoods close to Port Richmond.
