Is it safe to walk alone at night (after 11pm) in this area, especially from Rittenhouse Square to Arch & 20th-21st St? Moving from out of town and was a bit intimidated by the quietness pass Market St after rush hours (~7/8pm)

To the degree that one should practice street awareness anywhere downtown in the late night hours, I wouldn't say that block is particularly unsafe. As you go further west on Arch, it becomes more residential. People certainly pay well above-average rent and mortgage to live there. The relative quiet is a benefit.

You will be fine. Rittenhouse is always busy. It quiets down from Market to JFK, but not dangerous, and as FindingZen said, Arch is very residential from 20th to the river.

But as always, use street smarts in any big city.

That area is not well lit or active enough for me to walk in at 11pm
