Fishtown, Powelton Village, University City, Northern Liberties, West Kensington and if you want to be a real pioneer, real estate agents are selling a section of North Philly as JuNoGi - Just North of Girard. I like to call it the ghetto...

As it happens, I had to relocate from Philly to Houston for work, and I currently have my house on the market in Manayunk.
It is on a main artery, so no worries about getting snowed in, and it is a short walk to the R6 train.
If you are interested, please email me at_________ and I'll forward the info to you.
I really enjoyed living in the area and was sad to move.
Regards,
Lenny

If you want to live in the the city with a very small backyard try Chestnut Hill (but you will pay out the whazoo for car insurance and city wage tax).

Try Wyndmoor, Erdenheim, Springfield \, Flourtown or even Oreland to get just outside the city limits, but still an easy commute and a much bigger backyard.

Check out the River Line and look into towns that are near it. You can take the ferry over to philly and the river line is like 65a cents round trip. There are some nice towns on the Jersey Side.
