Moving back to the area? Best areas outside of the city and close to South Philly?
I think that my LONG subject says it all! lol
My husband and I have lived in Philly our entire lives and moved to Frederick, MD last year for his work. Now he has decided to persue a different job back in Philly so we're closer to family. His job would be with the railroads and based closed to the sports complexes. The thing is that I think that MD has spoiled him and he refuses to move back to Philly. He has agreed to the other counties like Delaware, Bucks, etc., but since we've always lived IN the city, I don't really know anything about the good places to live NOT in Philly.
Also, we have a son who is starting kindergarten so schools are important.
Thanks

Havertown, Springfield, Media, Wallingford have good schools and access to the city. But our visit to a McDonald's in Media today confirmed that we can't live in Southeast Delco again - the people working in the service sector are just so rude, its become an adjunct to the city.
If you have the big bucks and want a shorter commute, look at Lower Merion, Bala Cynwyd, Wynnewood, pretty much Lower Merion and Haverford school districts.
Skip over Radnor School District - way too snobby and entitled, lots of corruption and nonsense in the high school
Also Berwyn/Wayne/Paoli/Parts of Devon and Malvern are Tredyffrin schools which are great, but the train ride is much further than it is from places in Delco...

Or move to Media (it has Trader Joe's!!) and don't go to McDonalds. The schools are still good, library is nice and the town is great. Orrmobl, seriously was it just the McDonalds or was that the straw that broke the camels back?

I agree Delco or South Jersey, but try to stay in PA if you can. Although Delco has changed a lot since the time I lived there. Springfield is still OK I think. As others mentioned Havertown, Media area, etc. South Philly and the older burbs like Upper Darby and Sharon Hill can be rough, but are convenient to the airport and downtown. I prefer Chester County, but that may be a hike for him.

South Jersey is REAL close.....
to South Philly; just across the WWhitman Bridge. Driving just minutes like 10 or 20 depending where in SJ. When I worked for the railroad, I lived in Haddonfield area. Super n'hood; one of the safest and most $$ in SJ. Sewell is good as is most of Gloucester County. Rick

I lived in Delco until last year when we moved out here to Caln Township, Coatesville, whatever you want to call it. The country. And I was amazed at how people working at Wawa, the supermarket, pretty much wherever would tell you to have a nice day, smile at you, strike up a conversation.
And it didn't matter their skin color, age, how many tattoos they have, how they dress. Every last one of them is nice. I had become so jaded living in Delco I just thought the whole world had gone to pot. Living out here has given me a renewed hope for the human race.
And the trip to McD's confirmed that we will be scratching Media and Wallingford off our list because the negativity of the people we will encounter daily will overshadow the positives of the area. Once your eyes have been opened, its impossible to close them again.
