Good Apartments near Jenkintown (Manor: apartment complex, rentals, condos)

Planning to move to Philly and we liked Jenkintown/Elkins Park area. How are these areas as far as safety is concerned (for a young married couple) ?

Can anyone please suggest a good apartment community for a young couple ? Safety, parking and little quiet is the first priority. We are visiting the area this weekend and want to check out the good places near Jenkintown/Elkins Park.

Jericho Manor on Highland Ave. looks like a nice complex. Check apartmentratings dot com and plug in Jenkintown for info.

Both are nice areas. I personally avoid the apartment complex deal and go for duplexes that are rented out, as both these areas have tons. Check out allaroundphillyhomes.com and look under rentals and you'll find lots of them once you put in your search preferences. When I first got married, we looked at a 1st floor duplex with a private enterance and private parking in a very cute neighborhood in Jenkintown. It was $800/month. We had our own W/D and even a small side yard and porch. Just putting that thought in your mind because it seems that Jenkintown and Elkins Park have lots of those and it feels more like a house but for the price of an apartment. As for complexes, some people rent out the condos in Elkins Park House which are nice.

Thanks for your help. We checked out Jericho Manor but felt little expensive. We also looked Colonade but the ratings are very bad. Any ideas about that one ? I didn't read your response regarding the duplex, so I missed it.
