Hi all,

I'm a foreigner, looking for a short-term(budget) place to stay in Philly when I visit in mid Sept-Oct. Duration of stay will be approx. a month. I've tried looking up places through the websites but all I can find are either too expensive, too far away or mostly, requires lease terms of 3 months and above. Preferred location will be either Huntingdon Valley or near city, and budget would be no more than 600USD. Anyone able to help me please? Thank you very much. =)

What do you need to be near? Huntington Valley is an upscale suburb about 45 minutes from the city center. 600 dollars is not enough to stay there for a month. Also you need a car to get around there. Will you have a car?

I agree with the above. Huntingdon Valley may not be the place you want to look on a budget. If you have access to a car I would suggest some of the northeast section of the city(zip 19111,19115,19116)for rental properties/apartments. You will have to drive to Center City. You may also want to check out Willow Grove or Abington for cheaper rentals, but you won't find a complex for that little. It is difficult to find a month-to-month lease. Northeast might be a good option. Another thing you can do is check out craigslist and look for people who are looking for roommates. That will probably be your cheapest option because you will probably end up paying less than the $600 you want to spend and you won't have to worry about leaving in a month.

Thank you for your replies.

Oh, I have a friend who leaves near/in Huntingdon Valley. Doesn't have to be exactly in that area. I'm not familiar with the area's there, and thought it would be better to get a place near my friend or the city. I don't drive =( which is one of the reasons staying near my friend would be good. I've tried craigslist, but what I find there are mostly looking for roommates for long term. Yea, I understand 600 is a kinda low budget, but I'm not looking for much, just need a place with a bed (of course, internet and a kitchenette for simple cooking will be a plus =D).

Anyways, I've check quite a number of websites(from yahoo to google to kijiji..), but all pointed me to hotels and min. 3 months leases. Maybe you have some suggestion/recommendations to sites that I can go look?

*edit* Actually, there were 2 I found, that is willing to provide short-term rentals, and I've wrote to them but never got a respond =(

You may have to either increase your budget to avoid roommates or ask if your friend is willing to accept $600/month.

There are some "extended-stay" hotels to consider, especially out towards Horsham, but I'm not sure how convenient they will be to the Horsham train station.

We also still need to know where you will be working/studying/spending time as that will be an important factor in choosing where to live.

My friend is only able to offer me her couch lol, and I don't want to impose on my friend and her family. It's purely a visiting/sightseeing trip, that's why I need to keep a budget.

I took a look at Horsham, a suburb with lot of extended-stay hotels that has a train station nearby and is also close to Huntington Valley (although your friend would have to come pick you up).

Unfortunately I could not find any place that would cost you less than $2000 US per month. Those hotels are geared towards business people on short-term assignments. The expense only increases inside the city.

Short of re-checking Craig's List, perhaps you can split time between a hotel and your friend's family?
