Some interesting demographics
Delaware County is an interesting group of communities. I grew up Havertown which is a somewhat sheltered community. Only the kids there seem to cause any trouble. I've lived in Media, Lansdowne, Collingdale, Drexel Hill, and Newtown Square so I think I have a good feel for the area. Media is a small town and no one seems to bother you. Where I lived in Lansdowne was nice on the outside with grass and flowers but poor on the inside with bad heat, plumbing, etc. It was safe in West Lansdowne. East Lansdowne has some rough customers walking around. Drexel Hill is somewhat staid but had some malevolent teenagers when I lived there. Collingdale is strange place as has lot of confrontational type people and is borderline. In street I lived on in Collingdale I would hear constant threats being made, people yelling etc, lot of real angry people, but few outright assaults. The street right next to mine is upscale and has basically suburban living and values. Darby seems outright dangerous as the people there seem to take pride in how tough they are, emulating thug style etc. They would seem to laugh if someone they think is soft is worried to be there, they would just be wimps to them. It's interesting how these different communities produce such different people. Also interesting how other say things like how they would try to stay as far away from Collingdale, Darby, etc. You would have to be somewhat masochistic to move to area where people yell threats and there is an undercurrent of violence. Also dangerous downtown, even in University City as students are always getting robbed or assaulting each other.
