Renting houses - do they come with a refridgerator ?
I may rent a house, but it does not have a refrigerator.
Is the absence of refridgerators standard in houses ?
I really do not want to buy a refrigerator by myself as I'll only stay for 1-2 years, I'm debating what to do.
A basic one seems to cost ~ $500+taxes at sears.

Usually things like appliances are included in rentals, especially big ones like a fridge or stove/oven. The main iffy appliance would probably be a microwave. If you're unsure, just ask.

It is extraordinarily rare for a residential rental to not have a working stove and a refrigerater (unlike a resale, which may or may not), almost never happens. On the other hand if that is the way they are offering it I don't see much choice except to look elsewhere.

A refrigerator is usually included in a rental property. I don't know what you are looking at (house, apartment). If you really like the rental and the fridge is a problem, you may be able to find a good deal on a used one on craigslist.com (click on the closest city to the property). There are some really unique deals on there, and you may do well. Good luck.

Back when I was renting (10 years or so ago) a refrigerator was in the apartments but not included as part of the lease, meaning that as long as it worked you were good to go, but if it broke down, you (the tenant) was responsible for fixing or replacing it.

I'm considering a house. Landlord said people have usually brought their own refridgerators when they moved in.
How heavy are refridgerators ?

Very. And awkward to carry as well. If it has to go up stairs you will need an appliance hand truck with the yellow straps and 1 or 2 friends to help you...

Just a vague memory from when my parents bought a new refridgerator 10 years ago.....but if you buy one from Sears or someplace, don't they deliver it? Even if it's a little extra, it'd be worth checking out.

I've rented several houses and duplexes and none came with a fridge, but all were very cheap/low rent type places. If I rented a more upscale place I'd sorta expect a fridge.
Definitely find a second hand one and you'll be good to go.
