Just curious what you decided - I'm in the same situation. I am leaning towards Chestnut Hill, undecided about Queens Village. Plan to visit Narberth sometime next week.

the whole main line is a bit expensive but has the advantage of train access; hence the name main line. All the towns along the Main Line or essentially Route 30 are kind of inter-connected but each with their own identity and charm and sense of community. Wayne is, in my opinion, a perfect balance of warm, 'small-town' chic and lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere. The night-life is awesome; you can find people out till 3 in the morning enjoying themselves at cafes and the like even occasionally on weekdays, but just go a few blocks off the main drag (Lancaster ave) and there are apartments, townhouses, single-family homes with yards...

They do have a Trader Joes and while not in walking distance, Booth's Corner is a large farmers market. The downside of Media, unless something has changed, is some of the areas have higher crime. After living in Media for more than a year I have not seen much crime. There are occasional "petty" crimes and kids vandalizing cars, etc., but nothing major in the area. There have been several businesses that have closed in the last year, I guess due to the overall economy, but there is still a very active and vibrant downtown area. It is a great place if you are ready to settle down and enjoy a slower pace of life. If you are looking for more excitement, without good access to the train, then take a look at West Chester. Good Luck.

Here's a nice little website that can give you info on some of the towns other posters have mentioned (e.g. Ambler, Collingswood, Media, Wayne, West Chester):

I noticed some Lower Merion suggestions in one of the posts. In general, a lot of Merion can be "snobville" and maybe even Chestnut Hill a little. I only know Haddonfield a little, and I kinda get that sense slightly. Fairmount does sound like a great choice for you though- congrats!
