Hi All,

Are you familiar with any real estate brokers/firms in the Philadelphia area that offer its agents a base salary (even if minimum wage) in addition to commission?

Thanks

I wish. I work for a Real Estate Company in Manhattan and its murder working strictly off of commission. People think brokers are all rich snobs who greedily take their money, but its a lot more blood, sweat and tears than the average person knows.

I agree with TheRisingSon. Real Estate is no joke when it comes to making money. You have to sacrifice your time, family, life basically to make ends meet. It's not for everyone and I have never heard of a company that also pays a base salary - if it existed, I'd be working there! Good thought though, maybe with our economy the way it is, a company will start something like this.

Foxtons paid a base salary but went out of business when the market turned. R/E is a very tough gig with no benefits. You're a contractor, self-employed, in a market like this it is basically the same as unemployed. But they were all fat and happy 2002-2005, many of them have now moved on to other jobs.
