Default Moving to Philadelphia

Hi - we are about to move to the Philadelphia area and I'll be working in Ridley Park. We are trying to figure out where to look for an apartment to start with. We have a small kid who is not in school yet (but close).

We would like an area that offers good proximity to my work and the city and that has good schools and low crime. (Who doesn't, right?)

Someone suggested the West Chester area. It seems nice but I am worried about commute time and distance to Philadelphia.

Others have suggested NJ (Woodbury, Deptford, etc) but I have read about high taxes and I guess I would have to add the toll for the bridges to go to work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Welcome to the area. I would suggest you look in Media, PA. It's only a few miles from Ridley Park. A nice area that has lots of charm (with good schools for later). Also, it is fairly close to center city Philly.

Welcome Home: Media, PA

We are looking for an apartment in Media, but there does not seem to be many available there. Any site suggestions? Tried Rent.com and Apartments.com.

I think the ones available in Media tend to be bigger, full house type rentals for the most part. Have you also tried craigslist?

Yeah, we have been having trouble finding places in Media. I will check out Craigslist. I think we may end up staying in West Chester. It looks really nice, fairly close to Philly (30-45 minutes?). I wish we could check things out before moving there, but we can't so we'll have to go on blind faith.

West Chester is too far IMO. Try anywhere in the Springfield, Wallingford, Rose Tree Media, Garnet Valley, Sun Valley, Ridley or Interboro school districts.

They are all close by and safe, schools are great down to good but I would live in any of them if I worked in Ridley...

Try realtor.com under the rental tab and hotpads.com also...you could also use a realtor...

Ditto. West Chester is a little too far. Springfield would be good. And keep trying to look in Media, that'd be your best bet.
