Default Is there a way to avoid the 476 tollway?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to avoid the 476 tollway from Philadelphia to Scranton? Is it even worth avoiding? And how much does it cost?

Well if you could put up with 476 until you reach 309, switching over there might save you a few bucks. Of course, you will have more stoplights.

Take 33 north to 611 north to 380 up all the way to Scranton.......not sure if there is a better spot to get onto 380.........but its a straight, beautiful, and toll free highway to Scranton.
( please check map for better more defined info)

Oops, I started from Scranton and went south. Summerling's suggestion does sound better than mine, though, even in reverse.

I would say its not worth avoiding and given the already poor condition of PA's highways, I think the Turnpike is better maintained...

I came back from East Stroudsburg down 611 the whole way one night. I left there around 11pm, no traffic at all, caught maybe 2 or 3 lights the whole way back. It took me the same amount of time to get home as it did using the expressways to get up there.

Around 11PM I think it's fine, but during the day, 611 will have traffic, and you will stop at lights. It's not a bad route if you have time to kill, but if you're in a rush, I think the cost of the Turnpike is worth it for the time saved.

Yes, you can avoid 476, but it's not really worth it.
