I've lived in four other states and my experience is people are people. Some will stay in the same place their whole lives and some people will move - it's not a Pennsylvania thing.

I think the point here is the more you get out and explore, the more cultured you become...versus settling on being stale and small-minded

It's OK, because I know you thoroughly enjoy getting a rise out of people.

When don't people use my lines? Even when it's not called for
If you're paranoid enough to think I enjoy getting a rise out of people then so be it. And if stating my experiences is enough to get a rise out of them then I go back to my original statement that some people need to get out more

Getting back to the original topic of weather in PA will lengthen the life of this thread.
For my part... contrary to my fellow moderator, I've never been crazy about this time of year. If fall could segue into spring, I'd be a happy camper. By Philly standards, winter here in the DC metro is perhaps a week or two shorter (and features more ice than snow). But I definitely agree that all four seasons are pretty equally distributed in Philly with a relatively humid summer and its fair share of snow in the winter. For those who like the change of seasons, you can definitely find it all in Philly.

Oh, I concur with you tone that winters are too long, skipping it entirely is a little too bold. I found our year in SW Virginia to be the best combo for weather because it had four months of each season. The worst state that I've lived in was New York. We lived in the Finger Lake area where winter started in November and it snowed at least once a week until April. Or so it seemed. Bad weather certainly does make you appreciate the good weather though!

To me winter is that time of year when it's not comfortable to be outside for an extended period.
So, the average high temps are 60 or above from late March through mid-November. The average high temps are 50 or above from mid February to mid December.
Those are averages, of course, and the weather can be warm one week and freezing the next and yes, it would be miserable if it was freezing cold for 3 months straight. It just isn't that like that. Go to Erie and sure, the lake will be frozen and they'll have a snowpack that will last until April. We're lucky if our snow can stick around for 3 days.
Personally I enjoy the winter to a degree. I spend a few hours of my work day outside so it doesn't bother me. You just need to be dressed for it (if you don't own a pair of fleece or flannel lined pants you're always underdressed). By the end of Feb. I'm ready for winter to be over and sometimes March can be a tease but April never disappoints . . . i think the winter makes the spring that much sweeter.
