Default Laptop with internt access

I am travelling to Philadelphia, and intend on bringing my laptop. However, I am from Australia. I am wondering how I go about getting internet access in Philadelphia for 3 months. I want to make skype calls and send emails.
Do you have 'dongle' modems there that I could use. How much are they and with which company.
Please help me with ideas.

You can sign up with Verizon for DSL or FIOS fiber optic service for in home service

Or buy a Verizon wireless card plus service (not sure if you can only get 3 months though)

Dongle to plug into a PC card network card or dongle modem for dial up? Either way, yes. RJ-45 connector phone, RJ-11 for network. I'm sure you can go to a travel store or your work computer department and have them order the parts you need.
