I'm not too familiar with Hatfield as I've never lived there, but you will be right next to Souderton,Lansdale and Montgomeryville/North Wales. All those areas in general are nice. Parts of Lansdale and Souderton might not be as desirable but there are some really nice areas in both. In general, the housing prices look very reasonable and it's very safe. The schools are good I believe. If you are closer to the Montgomeryville Mall area(about 10 minutes from Hatfield) you will be right in the middle of plenty of restaurants, shops, movie theatres, supermarkets, etc. So I think you will be pleased with your location. Just know this area is not near Philadelphia, in fact its more "out there" in terms of its proximity to the city.

You'll definitely be in a safe area. I don't know specifically about the schools but in that general area, they're usually pretty solid. Hatfield is practically exurbia so the cost of living will be less than the city and suburban job centers.

Hatfield (along with Lansdale, North Wales, and Montgomeryville) is North Penn School District which is a fine district. Cost of living is fairly low and crime is not an issue.
