Default Thinking about relocation to Philly

My g/f and I are considering relocation. We currently live on Long Island. We are having a hard time with rent and other expenses and are looking to move someplace where apartments are lower in rent and where we can get ahead. I am a Computer Technician by trade, she is in retail drug store management. I have 3 kids that would visit me on school breaks. What areas in or around Philly are good for this sort of thing? We currently pay $900/month for a one bedroom and utilities are extra. Thank you for any advice.

well I know you could get a place for less than $900 a month, but $900 a month isn't a lot here in philly either. Depending on where you want to be, $900 could get you almost nothing, or if you were say in the NE section of the city you would get more. I would also look in the suburbs of Abington, Glenside and Willow Grove. Check out Philadelphia zip 19111,19116 and 19115. They are safe areas with plenty of rentals. Good luck!
