My wife's family is from Edison, NJ area which by the way is not 7-10 miles from NYC limits even if you include Staten Island which is towards the south of all the boroughs. It is more than 15-20 miles away. My wife's & her siblings are NYC people since they grew up there for over 20 yrs and they think Philly has a small NY vibe. If they & many others on this post think that then how can it possibly be a BIG Burgh? I think you r just saying that for the hell of it or maybe ur upset that u r stuck over there in such a desolate area where there seems to be no signs of hope. Sorry dude, I have nothing against Pitt. & hope all the best for it to rise like it used to over 50 yrs ago.
I've BEEN literally ALL over the USA. Name a city, see if I've been there. I'm in NYC right now (visiting my sister who lives here) as a matter of fact. I haven't lived in Pittsburgh for 15 years (of course I go back to visit family though).

My man, me being "stuck somewhere", ain't going to EVER happen! If I don't like a place, I move, SIMPLE! I'm a union carpenter, it's really no big deal to pick up and move at the drop of a hat!...

Maybe it's you, and your crowd that hasn't travelled "much"?....

P.S. Go over to the NYC forum. There's a thread on the first page asking this very question (is Philly similiar to NYC). Apparantly, some NYC'ers see it ALOT different than you and yours!....

Hey, don't mean to sound like I'm nit picking but I was originally speaking of distance between Edison and Staten Island as "the eagle flies" so to speak. Though, lets say from eastern Edison (where I lived), it is only about 10 miles using roadways to the Staten Island side of the Outerbridge Crossing. It's no way 15- or 20 miles. I had the unfortunate pleasure of driving to S.I. quite often when I lived in Edison lol.

Whether or not I've been to Topeka, makes no difference. Ask me if I've been to Kansas City? The names of little towns (especially in Kansas), are not easy to remember.

P.S. If I wanted to lie, I could've. Could've even googled it and got some info. Maybe I've been there, maybe not. I'd have to look at a map first, which I ain't doing cause I don't care enough to do so! Point is, I'm honest, no need to lie.

Topeka's the state capital. It's not as big as Kansas City or Wichita (although, it is ~1/3 the size of Wichita), but it's somewhat known, even by someone who's never been to Kansas and never really intends to go. It's not like he said Burr Oak.

Actually, Topeka's not a whole lot smaller than Kansas City (Kansas, not Missouri).

I don't need to go live around in diff. parts of the country, thats what nomads & hippies do! I am a educated professional who is satisfied with Philly even though I know there are many other cities that are better than Philly. Oh BTW, someone on the forum earlier stated how they went to a bar near Philly airport & found that everyone was just "Appalachian" type and my answer to that is ofcourse u'll find that because generally what tends to happen is that property values r lower in that area due to air traffic which means that only lower income individuals can afford it & usually those r blue collar workers. Philly suburbs r not as diverse as other big city suburbs but that doesn't mean there is no colored people around. The area outside the airport is Prospect Park, Delaware county. I went to a bar in Queens Village, Queens on Hillside Ave. & found nothing but whites with flannel shirts. That part of Queens is not too far from the airport. I also lived in London less than 5 miles from the airport & was considered an affordable section of London area. Also, if you're smart enough, you'd notice people r not greatly diff. from one BIG major US city to another. I even had Nazi skinheads approach me in NYC & asked me if I hate Jews & I asked where he lived, he told me NYC!!! Thats doesn't correspond well with posters on this site claiming people r more urban/diversely tolerant or city being better because these kind of things happen even in NYC or even Chicago. I have relatives in London & that city is as diverse or perhaps more than NYC and some of them bad mouth other races cause they encounter them on a regular basis & therefore judge a stereo type against them. Where do u think all the stereo types come from, Alabama? On the same token, people learn to co-exist with differences by these encounters & interactions.
