Need to find local charities that will accept donations of books
Hello
At my job I am on a volunteer board, in which among other things, I think of ways to do community service projects by mainly collecting things from my coworkers. Knowing the value of reading at an early age, I am looking to have a book drive in which I will collect donations of children's book. So my question is, if I collect the books where can I donate them.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much and have a great day.

I have heard that there are elementary schools in Philadelphia that need books for their libraries. Perhaps someone on this forum would know of some of the schools that are known to lack services. Even our fairly well off public library will accept donations of gently used books to put into our collection or sell in our book sale room, so I would think this would be doubly true of poor public elementary school libraries.

Try Philadelphia Reads City of Philadelphia
They collect books from a variety of sources and make them free to public school teachers (maybe others as well?). They're a great resource.

You should try to contact the folks who do Books through Bars.
It's one of the only programs in the country that prisons will allow inmates to receive literature through that isn't directly bought from the publisher.

The Free Library used book store behind the Main Library on 20th St. No reference books or text books and call for an appointment before coming.

reeceville elementary in the coatesville school district has a used book sale every year which the entire revenue go towards purchasing school equipment. I am sure if you contact the pta, they would be very happy to accept the books.
