Langhorne - Woodlyn Crossing, Neshaminy Woods, etc.
My fiancee and I are looking to buy our first home. I currently live in Newtown and work in Princeton, NJ. She lives in NE Philly (Bustleton section) and works near her home. We're trying to "meet in the middle" and find a home that would make both of our commutes somewhat convenient.
We're looking at homes in the areas of Neshaminy Woods and Woodlyn Crossing right now. I don't know too much about the areas, though I know that Langhorne is generally considered to be a pretty nice town and the Neshaminy school district is well-regarded. Could anyone give me your opinions of these neighborhoods? Our goals are to eventually raise a family, and although we will likely put our kids in Catholic school, we are interested in knowing about what people are generally like around there and how nice of a place to live these communities are.
Thanks for your help.

We looked a lot around Langhorne when moving to PA. There were some neighborhoods we fell in love with (of course I cannot remember them now!). Many people we talked to, loved the area and the schools. We decided against Langhorne for two main reasons.
Langhorne doesn't have a town center, it is mostly built of strip malls. The second was you would be in a neighborhood that was nice, and backed up to it, were houses that were 'junky'. By junky, I mean old cars in the yard, overgrown lawns, they were virtually unkempt.

Thanks veuvegirl. I guess I should add, for people that don't recognize the names I listed, that these neighborhoods are in the portion of Langhorne that borders Feasterville/Southampton. In other words, these neighborhoods are closer to Street Road or Neshaminy Mall than to Oxford Valley Mall.

Just curious - where did you end up veuvegirl? And what are the pluses and minuses? Did you get your town center? I love the walkable town and am hoping to find such a place that will work for us!

Hey! I specialize in lower bucks so hopefully I can be of assistance to you.. Woodlyn Crossing is a nice neighborhood, definitly a family oriented community. There are a bunch of neighborhoods in Langhorne that would be very very nice to raise a family. I would try to stay closer to the Oxford Valley mall area though and further from the Street Road area (feasterville, southampton etc). Some other areas to consider would be Fairless Hills (it's falls township), Morrisville (only the falls township part, they go to Pennsbury schools too and it's practicaly Yardley but cheaper since it's technically Morrisville) - Specifically in Morrisville I recommend Penns Grant and Hedgerow Woods. I think those are your best choices for a house in the low 200's that will have a good amount of property for raising kids. If you have any questions or want to talk in more detail, feel free to let me know.

We ended up in Yardley and love it. The schools are wonderful and I love the pool! We moved near between the River and the Canal, which is wonderful. It is a short walk to town, the parks are wonderful, and there is a great trail along the canal. The town is quaint, and has a lot to offer and there are several restaurants to choose from.
The drawback for us is you still have to drive to the grocery store, the gym, and most shopping. We moved from a very walkable town where we could get all our shopping done, parks, pool, everything.
That said, we are extremely happy that we chose Yardley over Langhorne. It is much more charming.
