Default Northeast Phily and russians

Hello
I have learned some of information about Phila and I have some questions...
Northeast Phily I know this place is too far from downtown and following throught North area (I heard that this area isn't safe...) How I can walk/go safe to the northeast from center city?
And yet one. Who knows something about russian or ukrainian peoples in Northeast area? It's true that there are too many of them? I ask it because I'm russian and I planning to live in Phily this summer

Interstate 95 will transport you into Center City from the Northeast. The neighborhoods that I-95 cuts through are safe. Way too far to walk. There is a large Russian population in the Bustleton/Somerton sections of the city and the crime is low. Welcome to Philly

You can also easily take public transportation - the Frankford El (a subway type line) or regional rail. It's a safe area.

The Russian & Ukrainian communities have become more scattered over time, but it's still mostly centered in the Northeast, with some in Jenkintown (a suburb) as well. I know more about the Ukrainian community than Russian, but you can check out Bell's Market for familiar foods. There's also the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Jenkintown and another center called Tryzub. There's also a good number of churches in the area (Byzantine Catholic & Orthodox).

You also try running web searches on "Russian Community Philadelphia" and see what you find. I tried it and found this site: RussianPhilly.Com - YOUR COMMUNITY WEB PORTAL. Russian Philadelphia Community. Russian YELLOW PAGES, CHAT, Local Events, News, Discussions, Classifieds.. Might be helpful. You can also check out Saint Andrew's Cathedral: Saint Andrew's Cathedral. If you find a contact you can ask them for specific information and have someone to meet up with once you're here.

Like newmarlig said, you can take public transportation into Center City from the Northeast. There are buses that run along Bustleton Avenue and Roosevelt Blvd. that take you to the Frankford Terminal. From there you take the train into Center City. Although the train passes through some rough areas there are very few incidents on the train. If you chose to drive into Center City via I-95 it could take anywhere from 30-60 minutes, depending on the time of day you leave. I-95 starts to back up southbound from the Callowhill exit before 6:30 and can extend as far back as Girard Avenue. The afternoon drive seems to fare better.

I just happened upon this quetion. I agree there are many buses that feed into Frankford Terminal from the Northeast. They are your best way into center city. I have tried both driving and riding the bus and train when I lived up in that area and prefer to use SEPTA. See www.septa.org for fare and schedule info. Good Luck and welcome to Philly
