Default Jenkintown school district -- recent problems?

A friend who was raised in the Jenkintown area told me that, in the last few years, political strife had caused the quality of the Jenkintown schools to suffer, and that problems might still be lurking beneath the surface.

Is this a commonly held view, or do others disagree. We're busy house hunting, and want to ensure good public schools for our child.

Thanks!
