Thanks for the information everyone. I talked to him and he seems rather indifferent to the area, he just doesn't want to live close to his girlfriends parents any longer....they all live around Ritner. Also his friend grew up not far from 25th and Tasker. I shared a couple of places I found with him so hopefully this will start him looking a bit more instead of just taking anything he finds first.

I unfortunately think of neighborhood demographics too. I am white, while my children are bi-racial. His g/f is Italian and the friend he will be moving with is black. He has an eclectic group of friends! While he may be oblivious to some racial tensions, others are not. I think he needs to be mindful of what neighborhood he chooses in an attempt to ensure some measure of safety for everyone. Does that even exist? lol

He likes South Philly and that is where he wants to be, so I guess I will just have to see how it plays out.

Point Breeze is a changing (for the better) neighborhood, in my opinion. However, the gentrification seems to be strongest in the Newbold section. See if you can talk him into looking in that area if he's bound and determined to live on the west side of Broad.

There are two active civic groups in that area. I know he and his friends will probably not be interested in them, but this info is for you. To me it says something about the people who are buying in the area...that they're working with their neighbors for a better community. Check 'em out:
