Even though I am a yankees fan and I grew up in Brooklyn. I used to pick up Channel 17 which was the Phillies TV station on occasion (depending on the weather and signal). He had a distinct voice.

A sad day for Phillies baseball.

Harry was to the Phillies organization as to Phil Rizzuto was to the Yankees Organization.

Actually, Richie Ashburn is a much better comparison to Phil Rizzuto, in multiple ways. A more accurate Yankees comparison for Harry Kalas would be Mel Allen back in the day.

I used to try to watch that channel as well. It was during the early to mid 1980's and I was using a radio shack indoor UHF antenna, this was during the days before cable came to Queens.

Most of the time the picture came in snowy and scrambled but as long as the audio was clear and I was able to hear Harry's voice I was happy.
