I am an African American Male 38 YO with Wife and 3 children. KOP is a great place to raise a family. It’s probably not so great for a single socialite. I was born in raised in South West Philadelphia , but have lived in KOP for over 10 years. There is some racism here in KOP but it’s everywhere, I think there is more in Philadelphia, people just don’t notice it as much, Actually having a large area that is all black that house people in poverty is racism when you have policies in that area that target, tag and hold back to occupants back. Also in KOP there is almost 0 theft that occurs except for in the Mall. Upper Merion and Lower Merion are suburbs of Philadelphia; it has traditionally been where Philadelphians move after they have seen some success in their careers. The people that have negative comments about KOP obviously do not live here. It’s like the people who say they hate all rich people because they don’t believe they will ever be rich. I had an associate who lives in Philly who told me he would never put his boat in the Delaware River, it’s just too dirty. And raved on about the dirty river and asked why I kept mine there, I said because I like to get on after work and I work 10 minutes away from the boat and my other option would be drive 2 hours away. And now every chance he gets he’s on his friends boat in the Delaware River. I’m sure you guessed it, he doesn’t own a boat to put anywhere. The same thing here, the people who talk bad about KOP are the ones who don’t believe KOP is or will ever be an option for them.

I too have heard good things about King of Prussia. I know a few people who live in King of Prussia and I have visited the Mall lots of time. Depending on when you go there you could run into alot of traffic, but it is worth the trip. Never really went other places there but have considered moving in the area. I have heard that it is a wide variety of people I guess like a melting pot. By the way there is a restaurant there called the melting pot which I also heard was five stars, never been there. Does anyone know exactly when the Village is to be completed and exactly what kind of stores will be built there. Sorry that I have to go on here say, but many people have said that although the area is pricey, tax are low and the schools are good.

KoP is one of the job engines of the region. the downsides are:
1) there aren't very many good lunch or restaurant options
2) traffic is a nightmare. having grown up out there, koP was a place to be avoided at all costs unless going to the mall
3)as someone noted, there's no there there
the upside:
1)crime is relatively low,
2)it's close to a job center (koP though God forbid you have to get to another job center )

How would you rate King of Prussia? Also is this considered part of Philly?

Thanks

Gus,

What do you like to do? Do you have a family? Where do you work?
That may help us give you a better perspective of the area based on your specific needs.

Default Living in KOP

I live in KOP and work in Center City Philly. It is a nice place to live. I am only 2 miles from the KOP mall, but my Townhouse is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. I commute by train (R5) to work in the city, to avoid the traffic and parking fees in the city (much cheaper, less aggravation). Upper Merion Twp taxes here are low. I use the Upper Merion Twp library and there are several nice parks here. Valley Forge National Park is right up the street. The other nice thing about KOP is you are far enough away from the city, if you do not like city life, while still living in metro Philly. However, you can travel just about anywhere from KOP - center city Philly, New Jersey; Delaware to the south; Pocono Mts; or go west on the PA turnpike and you can go to Chester County, Lancaster County, etc...

The Mall of America in MN is the largest US Mall. King of Prussia is the largest in the NE region of the US. Probably 2nd or 3rd largest overall.

KOP is a nice place to live. It can definitely get congested. You have to like living in the suburbs and being a bit of a trek from Philly. Public transportation is not the most convenient. There is a Walmart there that sells Pocky too.
