Church's and Popeye's chicken are half way decent for fast food.

I went out to Olney Transportation Center once a couple years ago on a Saturday to see what it was like, see where the Greyhound station was (Sigler's Travel, the Greyhound station in north Philadelphia, is located 1/2 block away on the west side of Broad just north of Olney), and walk over to La Salle (about 6 blocks to the west on Olney). I could see why some people feel that area is scary, but I didn't find it too bad (mind you, it was a Saturday afternoon during the day). The biggest thing I noticed was there was way too much trash laying around.

Popeye's and Churches chicken are pretty decent when it comes to fast food ( which I am not a great fan of). Compared to them , KFC tastes like cardboard, IMHO. Nevertheless, sorry for getting off the topic.

I've personally never eaten at Church's - they are usually located in bad neighborhoods, which is what Just1Lion is alluding to. I love Popeye's and there is a new KFC near me that actually has good food - I guess if it's cooked properly and turns around quickly, the food is MUCH better.
There used to be a Church's in West Philly along Cobbs Creek Parkway. Now there are ones in Sharon Hill, 58th and Woodland, 5600 block of Lancaster Ave, 16th and JFK, 3600 block of Broad St...mix of good and bad areas I think...

Thanks for helping make my point, orrmobl.
Anymore thoughts about the Olney Transportation Center...?

I went to Central and haven't been to the area since the mid-90s...back then they were building that monstrosity on the corner there that holds all the buses...generally, the area is very safe due to all the kids coming from all over the city to hit Central, Girl's High and LaSalle Univ all within a few blocks of the station. 7AM will be too early for most students and 7 PM will be too late, even for the sports teams kids...just make sure you don't wear exposed jewelry, don't draw attention and keep your business to yourself. You should be OK but you are always prone, no matter where, to the crazy that seems to be wandering around mouthing off about something.
People out that early will be going to work...in the evening there might be a couple trouble makers around but the work crowd will pretty much be gone by then.
The best option for transportation from that area is the EXPRESS orange line. Stops at Olney, Erie, Girard, Spring Garden, City Hall (connect with the Market-Frankford line and Subway surface trolley) and Walnut-Locust. Quick ride to center city (depending on where you would live)
