If there is an adult willing and able to stay with the kids and supervise their studies, you could live anywhere that's inexpensive and convenient, and have your kids attend a free public cyber charter school from the safety and comfort of home via the computer. Not everyone can do at home schooling without going insane or broke, but we have somehow managed. My youngest child has been doing that for four years (8th-11th grade). It has been safer, cheaper, more enjoyable, and educationally better than attending he well rated local school district the older siblings loved (one of them) and hated (the other one). The school has provided computer, printer, printer cartridges, internet subsidy, books, science/art materials, online lessons (recorded and live), teachers who grade work and call home as needed, prompt replies to all online questions and requests, an 800- number to call for contact as often as we want, and more. I provide lunch/supervision for my son, and drive him to optional field trips, and required PSSA tests.

We're pretty much committed to sending our kids to public schools. We've started driving around, looking at neighborhoods. I think we're starting to like the Springfield/Broomall/Wallingford area. From what I've been told, the schools are decent, and there are some nice neighborhoods with families. This also seems in line with a lot of the areas some of you have recommended. Anything I should know?

Wallingford will have the strongest of the school districts of the three mentioned, but the housing will also be the most costly. Springfield & Broomall are both fine solid school districts.
All the areas are nice family oriented places to live.

Wallingford, Swarthmore, Nether Providence has really great people and schools - the best place to raise good kids.

Since we'll be looking to start a family in the near future, good pre-K and elementary schools are a must. Would be great if the local public high school is good as well. Were do you get the biggest bang for your buck right now?

I'd say go to Exton, Great City, I loved the visit I had the other day. My friend lives out there and told me she's not too far from Philly.

Abington is nice, the hospital is great (I work there). Also, not really sure how far you want to be - but Quakertown offers a lot of nice options as well.
