Default Hit and Run?

I've heard on the radio lately about several recent "hit run" collisions in Philly. Although those incidents are horrible, that's not what I'm writing about.

Since when is a "hit and run" called a "hit run"?

We always said "hit AND run" or "hit & run" but now suddenly broadcasters on several stations have somehow decided that the crime is now called "hit run" or "hit/run." I'm sure the statute hasn't changed recently; it would have been on the PA legislature website or in the news.

So can anyone shed light on this? I know there are far more important things going on, but this is just an annoying little loose end that needs tying up.
